Game 23 - Lions lose to Trevor Browne.  Julio Angulo starts pitching, but the Browne offense is too powerful.  Danny Carreon also came into pitch and couldn't put out the flames.  The Lions hit the ball well Julio had two more hits, Jose Jurado added one more.  Stephen Burnham had a clutch hit to score 2 RBI's.  Lino Vargas had a two RBI hit.  But it wasn't enough.  Lions are 18-4-1.

Game 22 - A strange game, but the Lions still prevail 5-2 over Maryvale.  Lino Vargas started pitching and was effective.  Maryvale jumped up 2 runs in the first inning and the Lions seemed down.  We got one run in the fourth inning.  Carlos Durazo singled in the 6th inning and with good baserunning went to second when the outfielder misplayed the ball.  Ivan Rascon came through clutch again and scored Carlos.  Danny Carreon had two hits and a couple more steals  Carlos Durazo also had two hits including 2 RBI's in the 7th inning to put the game away.  Julio Angulo came into pitch in the 5th and struck out 4 batters to get the win, Julio also had a ground rule double.  Lino had 5 strike outs in the game too.  Lions are 18-3-1 and play Trevor Browne next in a must win game to clinch the Region.

Game 21 - Danny Carreon does it both pitching, hitting and running!  Danny pitched a complete game 4 hitter and kept South Mountain off balance the entire game.  Offensively Danny was 3 for 4 with 5 stolen bases!!  He continues to extend his stolen base record and is close to 40 steals for the season.  Stephen Burnham had 3 triples to help in the win and also had 4 RBI's.  Erik Alcala had 2 hits as did Jose Jurado.  Mario Garcia continued to be the leading RBI man for Alhambra and he had another RBI in the 9 to 1 victory.  The runnin' Lions had a total of 9 stolen bases for the game and continue to lead the state in that category.  Lions are now 17-3-1.

Game 20 - A lousy effort still results in a Lions win.  Lions beat Camelback 12-2 in 5 innings.  Franco Munoz goes the whole way in a nice pitching victory for the Alhambra Lions.  The Lions were sluggish the entire way, but were able to overcome lack of hustle, not backing up bases, poor baserunning at times, and just a poor effort for the victory.  Danny Bastidas had two hits, Danny Carreon had one hit and three stolen bases to break the record!!  Danny now has 31 steals on the season.  Jose Jurado also had a hit and two stolen bases.  Omar Elizalde has a hit and 3 steals.  Mario Garcia had the first RBI in the game.  Alhambra is on a 11 game winning streak and are now 16-3-1.

Game 19 - WHAT A FANTASTIC HIGH SCHOOL GAME.  The Lions jumped up in the 2nd inning with Danny Bastidas getting a clutch RBI.  Dobson came back with 3 runs in the 5th inning and Alhambra responded with 2 in the bottom of the 5th inning.  SOOOOO a tie game going into the 6th... The Lions walked in the go ahead run, but the Lions got a run in the bottom of the 7th inning to tie.  Bottom of the 8th, Danny Carreon singles up the middle, takes second on a wild pitch.  They walk Stephen Burnham to pitch to Sergio Molina.  Two outs, bottom of the 8th, Sergio singles to the opposite field to score his cousin for the winning run.  Julio Angulo pitches on 2 days rest, he goes almost 5 innings, striking out 3.  Danny Carreon come in relief and is terrific!!  Danny strikes out 5 and gets the win for the game.  Danny Bastidas has two hits, as does Danny Carreon and Julio Angulo.  Ivan Rascon also has two hits and was a wall behind the plate all night.  A great win - ALHAMBRA WINS 5-4 over Dobson.  Lions are 15-3-1.

Game 18 - Lions overcome poor baserunning and errors to win 13-4 over the Central Bobcats.  Julio Angulo again showed why he is one of the best pitchers in the state of Arizona with the pitching win.  Julio also had 2 hits and is still battling an injury he suffered last week.  At the plate he was Kirk Gibson like and short hopped the fence, but was only able to get to first.  Jose Jurado went 4 for 5, Danny Bastidas had a key hit, Mario Garcia had another key RBI and Stephen Burnham continues to stay on fire at the plate.  The game was close,  3-2 going into the 6 inning.  The first two Lion batters reached base and Javy Aguilera laid down a 2 strike bunt, the Bobcats tried to get the out at third, but the throw was wide and Javy ended up at 3rd base on the error.  That opened the flood gates as the Lions scored 10 runs in the 6th inning.  Julio only gave up 2 earned runs and struck out 10 'Cats in the win.   Lions are now 14-3-1.

Game 17 - Lions again overpower their opponent with 18 total hits!!  Alhambra beats South Mountain 13 -2 behind a wonderful pitching performance from Lino Vargas.  Lino pitched 5 strong innings and kept the Jaguars off balance the entire time.  Franco Munoz came in relief in the  inning to shut the door.  Mario Garcia had 3 hits and 3 RBI's to lead the Lions in the attack.  Jose Jurado and Carlos Martinez also both had 3 hits with Carlos hitting in 2 Lions - including one off the opposite field fence!  Jose also had 3 steals on the day.  Ivan Rascon, Stephen Burnham and Erik Alcala all had two hits for the Lions.  Alhambra is on a 7 game winning streak.  Record is now 13-3-1.

Game 16 - Lions have 20 hits and outpower Carl Hayden 15 to 5.  Stephen Burnham has  2 hits and 4 RBI's to lead the Lions.  Franco Munoz starts on the mound and has a complete game victory.  Franco struggled in the first 3 innings, but settled down for the victory.  Erik Alcala, Mario Garcia, Javy Aguilera, Omar Elizalde, Jose Jurado, and Carlos Durazo all had 2 hits.  13 Alhambra players in all had at least one hit.  It wasn't pretty, but the Lions got the job done in a Regional Game.  Lions are 12-3-1 and ranked 4th in the state.

Game 15 - Lions on a 5 game winning streak!  Alhambra beats Fairfax 9 to 3.  It started out good, Danny Carreon walked stole 2nd and Mario Garcia hit him in to go up one nothing in the top of the first inning.  Danny C started out pitching and the lead off hitter hit a bomb.  Danny settled down to pitch 6 innings to get the win.  Franco Munoz came in the last inning to complete the victory.  Danny C is only 3 steals away from the school record of 26 steals in a season.  Stephen Burnham was the offensive leader for the game getting two clutch hits to drive in runs.  The Lions have been struggling getting clutch hits this season, but Stephen is starting to one of the "go to" guys with runners in scoring position.  Stephen also threw out a runner at the plate with Ivan Rascon blocking the plate and putting a great tag on the runner.  Lino Vargas had 3 or 4 great "picks" at first base, saving the infield from unnecessary errors.  Lions are now 11-3-1.

Game 14 - Lions Win AGAIN!! Alhambra is in sole position of 1st place in the Region by beating North 3 to 2.  Julio Angulo pitched another gem, going the distance and striking out the side in the 7th inning.  Danny Carreon was 2 for 3, Omar Elizalde, Stephen Burnham, Mario Garcia, Erik Alcala all got hits in the victory.  The Lions could have broken the game open wide, but couldn't get a clutch hit.  Bases loaded and 0 outs, with the 2, 3, 4 batters up and they couldn't come through.  Lions Record 10-3-1.

Game 13 - Alhambra beats the top team in the Region 6 - 4.  Julio Angulo pitched a gem and beat Trevor Browne who was leading the region at the time and they were unbeaten in Region play before today.  Erik Alcala started off the Lions offense with a blast over the left field wall for his first home run of the season.  Carlos Durazo hit into a force play that scored the go ahead run and the Lions never looked back.  Danny Carreon, Stephen Burnham and others led the offense.  Ivan Rascon walked a couple of times. Danny C had two stolen bases to lead the Lions with 20 stolen bases already this season.  The all time record is only 26.  Alhambra was down 3 to 2 going into the 6th inning, but plated 4 runs in the inning to take the lead.  The Lions are now 9 wins, 3 losses and 1 tie on the season.

Game 12 - Alhambra beats Maryale 10 to nothing!!  Danny Carreon started pitching and got his second consecutive victory going the distance.  Danny also had two hits in the victory.  Jose Jurado takes the home run lead with his second HR of the season.  Ivan Rascon, Carlos Durazo, Lino Vargas, Mario Garcia all led the offensive attack as the Lions run ruled the Panthers.  Omar Elizalde had another shot up the middle and then fell flat on his face going to second base.  A Memorable Moment for the Lions. The Lions are now 8-3-1 on the season and play

Game 11 - The losing streak ends!!  Alhambra jumped up on Camelback and never looked back.  Carlos Durazo led the offense with 2 clutch hits.  Ivan Rascon lost the left fielder with a big bases loaded double.  Javy Aguilera came off the bench with a big hit to the opposite field.  Mario Garcia, Omar Elizalde, Jose Jurado and others chipped in with hits.  Danny Carreon started on the mound and only gave up one run in three innings pitching.  Franco Munoz mopped up on the mound, pitching the last 2 scoreless innings.  Lions win 16-1.

Game 10 - Lions first 3 game losing streak!!  North Canyon is too much and outlast Alhambra 10 - 4.  Julio Angulo and Jose Jurado get their first home runs of the year.  Jose also went 3 for 3 in the loss.  Julio started pitching, but the N. Canyon offense is too powerful and they prevailed.  The Lions jumped up on them in the first with a Julio Home Run.  The Lions led 4-3 in the fourth inning, but then the wheels fell off.  Two errors on the right side of the infield hurt and that was all N. Canyon needed.

Game 9 - Lions aren't ready to play and Coach York couldn't motivate the team and they go down again 10-3 against Central.  It was and ugly game from the start.  The Coaches couldn't motivate the team and the team wasn't ready to play.  Carlos Martinez got an RBI single early in the game.  Lino Vargas started the game and gave up a two run home run in the first, then settled down some and pitched good enough to win, but the Lions continue to make baserunning mistakes.  The Lions were hurt when a handful of players were not eligible to play.  The selfishness has got to stop in order for Alhambra to be something special this season.

Game 8 - Lions lose for the first time this season.  They had an opportunity to win the game in the bottom of the 7th inning when they loaded the bases, but it was not meant to be.  Danny Carreon started out on the mound and threw a complete game to suffer the loss.  Omar Elizalde went 2 for 3 with two shots and Julio Angulo also led the way going 3 for 3.  The Lions fought the entire tournament and it showed:  Julio Angulo was awarded the coveted "MATT HUFFMAN AWARD" which was voted on my the managers of other teams.  This is the first time an Alhambra Player has ever received this award in the 8 year old tournament.  Lions are now 6 wins, 1 loss and 1 tie.

Game 7 - Alhambra beat Westwood from Mesa 2 to 1.  Julio Angulo pitched a complete game, striking out 12 and getting an RBI in the first inning.  Julio was dominant for the majority of the game.  Mario Garcia continued to be the most successful Lions hitter in the tournament going 2 for 3 with a triple.  Jose Jurado got another RBI.  The Lions play for the Championship Game of the Matt Huffman Tournament.

Game 6 - Lions allow one to slip through their fingers, but still tie Trevor Browne.  Alhambra was up 9 to 1 in the second inning, but fell asleep during the middle innings to allow Browne to come back in the game.  The game ended in a tie 10 to 10.  Mario Garcia was perfect at the plate going 4 for 4.  Danny Carreon was 2 for 3 with 2 more stolen bases.  Jose Jurado was also 2 for 3 with a blast off the fence.  Omar Elizalde got his first High School hits - going 2 for 2 with a big hit early in the game.  The Lions could have won the game, but poor baserunning and a great throw by Browne's left fielder just beat Danny Carreon at the plate.  The Lions still win their bracket in the Matt Huffman Tournament and play Saturday at noon in Maricopa.  Lions record is 5-0-1.

Game 5 - Lions win over Fairfax 7 to 4!  Lino Vargas got his first High School win and was fantastic on the mound!  Lino allowed 4 runs in the first inning, but then settled down to get the complete game victory for the Lions.  He scattered 9 hits, struck out 3 and didn't walk any batters.  Danny Carreon was 2 for 4 with 6 stolen bases and he has a total of 18 on the season so far.  Jose Jurado stayed hot going 2 for 3, Erik Alcala was also 2 for 3.

Game 4 - Lions win 5 to 2 over the St. John's Redskins.  Julio Angulo got the win, striking out 6.  Franco Munoz came in and also Ked 5.  Danny Carreon came in the game to pick up the save.  Mario Garcia went 3 for 4 with a clutch hit to score 2 late in the game.  Jose Jurado was 2 for 2 and 2 stolen bases.

Game 3 - The Lions stayed undefeated in the Matt Hoffman Tournament beating The Tempe Buffaloes 7 to 3.  Danny Carreon got the win pitching and also stole 4 bases in the process.  Jose Jurado was 2 for 2 with 3 RBI's.  Julio Angulo came in relief with the save.

2010 opened with an impressive win for the Lions.  Julio Angulo pitched and hit to lead the Lions to a 10 to 0 win.  Julio had 11 K's and was 3 for 3 at the plate.  Danny Carreon was 4 for 4 in the debut and Stephen Burnham was 2 for 2.  Mario Garcia and Jose Jurado also led Alhambra offensively going 2 for 4.  The win was Coach York's first win in Arizona.

Game 2 was just as impressive as game one.  The Lions quickly jumped out to a 7 to 0 lead in the first inning and by the 2nd it was already 12 - 0.  Stephen Burnham started pitching and was relieved by Franco Munoz who pitched well, but didn't get much help defensively.  Danny C started out the game with a single and took second when the outfielder didn't charge the ball and the rout was on from there.  Stephen still is batting .1000 and everyone got in the game and got at least one at bat.  Lions record 2-0.
